Traveling with family
Are you traveling with children ? Air Moana is committed to meeting your needs and making your family travel as easy as possible. Here, you’ll find essential information, available options, and practical tips to help you prepare for your next trip.
Travel requirements for minors
On our flights, children under 12 years old must be accompanied by a self-sufficient adult who is at least 18 years old. If the accompanying person is the child's parent or legal guardian, they can be under 18 years old.
Both parents and young travelers must present a valid ID during various checks. For more information, you can consult the Valid Identification Documents page.
Please note that a child between 4 and 12 years old traveling alone will be considered an unaccompanied minor. You can find details about our dedicated service on the Unaccompanied Minors page.
Baby on board
A child is considered a baby when they are under 2 years old at the time of travel.
Please note that whether your baby has a seat or not, they must be secured with an infant seatbelt (provided by the crew) attached to the seatbelt of the accompanying passenger during:
Takeoff and landing phases,
In case of turbulence.
Our booking options for babies
When traveling with a baby on an Air Moana flight, you have several options available:
Your baby travels on your lap
In this case, the baby does not have their own seat. You will need to book an “infant” ticket. On board, the baby will be provided with an appropriately sized life jacket and seatbelt.
Your baby travels in a seat next to you
If you choose this option, you will need to book an “infant occupying a seat” ticket. You then have two choices:
1. Baby seated on an airplane seat
Your baby can sit directly on the airplane seat, provided they can sit up independently. However, they must be transferred to your lap during takeoff, landing, and in case of turbulence.
2. Baby in a car seat
You can place your baby in an airline-approved car seat. However, the baby must be transferred to your lap during takeoff, landing, and in case of turbulence.
To ensure safety and maximize comfort, the car seat must meet the following criteria :
- Be in good condition with no signs of damage,
- Fit within the width and depth dimensions of the airplane seat,
- Be equipped with safety harnesses,
- Be approved for both car and airplane use according to European, North American, or Australian/New Zealand standards, etc. Here are some examples of certification labels :
Please note that the following types of devices are not recognized as suitable safety devices for use on board our aircraft :
- Any seat designed to be installed exclusively using rigid lower anchors (Isofix or equivalent),
- Any booster seats,
- Baby carriers.
We remind you that you are responsible for installing the car seat on board, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Any non-compliant seat may be refused by check-in and cabin crew staff.
Baggage and strollers
Checked Baggage Allowance for Babies
- Baby traveling on your lap: 5 kg
- Baby occupying a seat: Same baggage allowance as an adult (see fare conditions)
Please note, if you are using a car seat, its weight is included in the baby’s cabin baggage allowance.
Checked Baggage Allowance for a Child (over 2 years old)
- Same baggage allowance as an adult (see fare conditions)
You can transport a stroller or a travel crib at no extra charge, provided the weight of these items does not exceed the baggage allowance of the child or accompanying adults.
Priority Boarding
For your comfort and a stress-free boarding experience, families with babies or children under 12 years old are given priority boarding. Air Moana agents will invite all families to proceed to the boarding gate before the rest of the passengers.
On-board entertainment
On all our flights, young passengers can enjoy MoanaConnect, our in-flight entertainment system.
By connecting a tablet or smartphone, you can access content specially designed for children, including cartoons and games.
Our travel tips
Traveling with babies or children can be a wonderful adventure, especially when well-prepared. To help you, here are our suggestions to make your flight with young passengers as pleasant as possible :
- Ensure you have all necessary identification and other identity documents.
- Make sure your baby doesn’t have a cold or isn’t sick, as the flight could be uncomfortable, and postponement is often recommended.
- Choose comfortable clothing for the journey. Also, bring warmer clothes for the plane, where the temperature can be cooler.
- Remember to bring your child’s favorite comfort item, such as a blanket or toy.
- Bring something to keep your child hydrated and a small snack (while adhering to the conditions outlined on the Prohibited and Regulated Items page).
- Prepare a bag with essentials: diapers, wipes, and any necessary medications.
- Consider sugar-free candy or chewing gum, and for babies, a pacifier. This can help reduce the effects of pressure on the ears during takeoff and landing.
