Unaccompanied minors (UM)
Children traveling alone deserve special attention. That’s why Air Moana offers a service specifically designed for unaccompanied minors (UM - Unaccompanied Minor). At every stage of the journey, from check-in to arrival, our staff will accompany and care for them. This ensures a peaceful flight for these young passengers, as well as peace of mind for their parents.

From what age is this service available ?
Air Moana offers this service to children who are able-bodied and self-sufficient, traveling alone, and aged between 4 and 17 years.
- For children aged 4 to 11, this service is mandatory.
- For teenagers aged 12 to 17, this service is optional. Starting at age 12, a child can travel alone without special assistance. However, for these young passengers, we also offer this service upon request.
What are the required conditions ?
To benefit from this service, the reservation should be made as early as possible. It can only be done by phone at (+689) 40 48 40 00 or at Air Moana agencies.
To travel with the unaccompanied minors service, the young passenger must:
- Be accompanied to the check-in counter by a responsible adult with a valid ID.
- Be able-bodied and self-sufficient.
- Have a valid ID.
- Have a parental travel authorization for an unaccompanied child (UM).
- Be met at the arrival airport by an adult with a valid ID.
Service Fees
In addition to the ticket price, Air Moana charges the following fees :
- 700 XPF (all taxes included) per flight segment for Bora Bora, Raiatea, and Rangiroa
- 1,000 XPF (all taxes included) per flight segment for Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa
Please note that in case of cancellation of the unaccompanied minors service (for example, if the child no longer travels alone), a refund is only possible for children aged 4 to 12, according to the applicable fees, and this can be done up until the day before departure.
How to Book?
Booking a ticket for an unaccompanied minor can only be done by phone at (+689) 40 48 40 00 or at Air Moana agencies.
The ticket is valid for one year from the date of issue.
Please note that the young passenger is entitled to the baggage allowance associated with the fare conditions of the ticket.
When booking, you must provide the following information about the responsible adults accompanying the child at departure and those meeting them at arrival:
- Full names
- Phone numbers
- Email addresses
To complete the booking and allow travel, a liability waiver form must be filled out. This document is available at Air Moana agencies or at the check-in counters.
Preparing for the Journey
We recommend arriving at the airport as soon as check-in opens. This allows for a stress-free check-in process and ensures there is enough time to complete any last-minute required documents.
When preparing the carry-on bag (ideally a backpack), we suggest including the following:
- The young passenger's ID
- The liability waiver form
- Their favorite games
- Water and a snack (while adhering to the conditions outlined on the Prohibited and Regulated Items page)
- Sugar-free candies or chewing gum to help reduce the effects of pressure on the ears during the flight
Finally, make sure they are dressed in comfortable clothing for the journey. Also, bring warmer clothes to wear on the plane, where the temperature may be cooler.

What happens in the case of a canceled or delayed flight ?
It is important that the individuals accompanying the unaccompanied minor remain within the airport premises until the actual departure of the flight is confirmed. In the event of a canceled flight or a long delay, the accompanying person may be required to pick up the young passenger while waiting for a new flight. If the accompanying person has already left the airport at the time of the cancellation or delay, our agents will contact them immediately. Meanwhile, the child will remain under the constant supervision of our staff, in complete safety, until the accompanying person returns or the situation is resolved.
Can a child under the age of 4 benefit from the unaccompanied minor service ?
At that age, children do not have sufficient autonomy to benefit from this service. Therefore, children under the age of 4 must travel with a responsible adult.
